Suresh Raina, who recently batted for Indian cricketers’ participation in overseas T20 leagues, has once again touched the topic, revealing why he wants to ply his trade in the foreign competitions.

BCCI’s rule suggests that any India cricketer who has not announced formal retirement from all forms of the game — domestic and international — isn’t eligible to take part in any overseas T20 league that competes with the Indian Premier League (IPL).

In a conversation with Aakash Chopra, Raina made it clear that money isn’t the motive as far as his desire to feature in foreign leagues is concerned.

“It's not about money. The money that we earn in IPL, we can't get it anywhere. Even if we play foreign leagues for 10 years, we won't be able to earn that much. The thing is when cricket (IPL) is over, players who aren't contracted....give them a chance. We want to play one league or two leagues. We just want to play. Ranji Trophy's standard isn't of that quality now,” the southpaw said.

“We need match practice. If we sit at home for two months....even if we play domestic cricket..you won't have that confidence. We want to play quality cricket. I am not playing for money. I am happy with money I have,” he added.

Apart from Raina, the likes of Irfan Pathan and Robin Uthappa have recently urged the BCCI to let Indian cricketers play in overseas T20 leagues.

Despite these pleas, BCCI isn't expected to change the existing policy. As said, the players will have to retire from international cricket and IPL to get the NOC to play in the foreign leagues.

Last year, Yuvraj Singh called time on his international cricket career and subsequently featured in the Global Canada T20 League and Abu Dhabi T10 League for Toronto Nationals and Maratha Arabians respectively.
