IPL postponement makes MS Dhoni’s India comeback difficult, says Ajay Ratra

IPL 2020 was seen quite decisive for Dhoni's international career.

Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni has been out of cricketing action since Men in Blue’s shocking semi-final loss to New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup in England last July.

However, the right-hander was due to make comeback to the competitive cricket with the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings, and even the legendary cricketer had the training with the team before the IPL 2020 was suspended indefinitely due to Coronavirus pandemic.

While there have been already a lot of debates on Dhoni’s future, India head coach Ravi Shastri had made it clear that IPL 13 would decide if the former captain would be a part of the team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 to be held in Australia later this year.

Well, there is still no clarity on whether the IPL 2020 will be held this year due to the COVID-19 crisis, and former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ajay Ratra believes that the IPL postponement made it difficult for Dhoni to make a return to international cricket.

Ratra told Mykhel: “You see, Dhoni is a very unpredictable player but yes there has been a long time since he played competitive cricket. IPL 2020 seemed quite decisive for his international career.”

He further added, “The team management would have closely monitored his performance and also how other wicketkeepers would’ve done during the IPL. Unfortunately, IPL getting postponed indefinitely makes it (Dhoni’s comeback) difficult but you never know with Dhoni.”

Noteworthy, the fate of the IPL 2020 is stuck in limbo with more than 4 thousand people lost their lives due to the deadly virus which has infected over 1.38 lakh in India so far.
