Dale Steyn recalled an LBW shout, which, if it had gone his way, the great Sachin Tendulkar wouldn't have become the first male batsman to score an ODI double hundred.
The incident is from the famous Gwalior ODI of South Africa's 2010 tour of India, where Steyn believes he should've had the Master Blaster, but umpire Ian Gould decided not to raise his finger.
"Tendulkar scored the first double hundred in ODI cricket, and it was against us in Gwalior. And I actually remember – I think I got him out lbw when he was about 190 odd. Ian Gould was the umpire, and he gave him not out," said Steyn during a Sky Sports Cricket Podcast with his English counterpart, James Anderson.
"And I was like, ‘Why, why did you give him not out!? That’s so dead.’ And he was like, ‘Mate, look around – if I gave him out, I won’t make it back to the hotel.'"
Steyn conceded 89 runs for no wickets in his 10-over spell, as Proteas suffered a massive 153-run loss.
"You bowl a bad bowl, and he (Tendulkar) hits you for four – he’s on nought and he hits you for four in Mumbai, it feels like the world is closing in on you. He’s only on four not out, he may as well have been on 500," said the great bowler, explaining how difficult it was to bowl to the Indian legend.
