India’s star opening batsman Rohit Sharma doesn’t believe in setting long-term goals, saying it “won’t help you in any way”, rather he likes to focus on short-term goals which eventually brings success to him and he will continue to follow the method.

Speaking on Star Sports Cricket Connected show, the Hit-man said the long-term goals add more pressure and stress, therefore, he decided to focus on short-term goals, like planning and preparing for games in the next two-three months.

Rohit said on the show, “Over the years, I’ve realized that long-term goals won’t help you in any way, on the contrary, it will add to your pressure and stress. I have always focused on short term goals which are mainly the next few games in the upcoming 2-3 months who is it against, what can I do best,”

The right-hander further added, “Setting goals for each series or tournament helps me a lot and I will continue to follow this method in the future.”

As the ongoing global Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has brought all the sporting events, including cricket to a halt and the 32-year-old said: “In the upcoming years, I hope we get the opportunity to play cricket, as we don’t know when we will play again.”

The pandemic has already led the IPL 2020 to be postponed indefinitely while spreading dark clouds on the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2020 to be held in Australia in October-November with no sign of any improvement around the world at the moment due to the deadly outbreak.

Sharma signed off by saying, “When we resume playing cricket, we will have to see what’s coming our way - whether its T20 World Cup or IPL. We even had a big bilateral series against Australia planned – we will have to analyze and see who we are playing against,”
