"This is the best I've played in my career", Alex Hales desperate for England comeback

Hales has been out of the England set-up for disciplinary reasons since June 2019.

Alex Hales | GettyDiscarded England opener Alex Hales is desperate to make a comeback to international cricket after enjoying a terrific phase with the bat in T20 leagues in the last six months. Hales, who was dropped from England's squad ahead of the last year's ODI World Cup at home because of disciplinary reasons, showed tremendous form in the Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia and then the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

But what shall really give hope to Hales of wearing the three lions jersey again, is captain Eoin Morgan himself keeping the door open for his return to the England dressing room.

"Like Morgs (Morgan) has said, I guess time is the biggest healer," Hales told the Daily Mail. "I just don't know how long that is going to go on for, that's the only thing. I honestly have no idea. Obviously, I'd love to get my place back. Playing international cricket is the highlight of any player's career and I still think I've got a lot to offer, particularly in T20."

"I certainly feel I have matured, as a player and away from the game, and hopefully I'll get the chance to show that in the group environment again. It can be tough to rebuild that trust when you are not in the close-knit circles."

The goal is to get back in the reckoning and be part of England's campaign at the T20 World Cup in Australia after the COVID-19 shutdown is over.

"This is the best I've played in my career. My England career has been pretty good so far in T20 and that's not even playing to the best of my ability. I'd love to get that chance again," said the 31-year-old, who has played 60 T20Is for England at a strike-rate of 136.66.

"I've moved on and grown from the mistakes I've made in my private life and, hopefully, people can forgive and forget. Hopefully, I get that chance again because I feel I'm in a good head space."

"I just hope the damage that's been done isn't terminal and I get another bite of the cherry," Hales added.
