“Destiny made Dhoni captain; Yuvraj was supposed to lead India,” says Yograj Singh

Yograj had accused Kohli and Dhoni of backstabbing Yuvraj Singh and betraying him.

Yograj compared Dhoni with Ganguly as captain One of the greatest limited-overs batsmen India has ever produced, Yuvraj Singh was once earmarked for India captaincy. However, in a twist of fate, the 2007 T20 World Cup saw selectors going with a young team and also named MS Dhoni as the captain.

Dhoni went onto become one of the all-time greatest captains the world and country had seen, winning the said tournament, the 2011 World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy as well, apart from other series as well.

Yograj Singh calls himself a big fan of MS Dhoni, but blames him for destroying careers

However, this hasn’t gone down well with Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh, who has once again lashed out at Dhoni. He compared Dhoni with Sourav Ganguly and accused him of not backing players as Dada did in his time as captain of the team.

The videos I have watched lately featuring Sehwag, Gambhir or Yuvraj, everybody has said something about Dhoni directly or indirectly. Why does everybody talk about Ganguly so much? When he started building the team, its ranking was 7. He took youngsters like Yuvraj, Kaif, Zaheer, Harbhajan, Sehwag, and Gambhir and built a new team,” Yograj told News24.

Yograj said it was Yuvraj who should have become captain of India, but destiny chose Dhoni | GettyYograj pointed out that it was only destiny that made Dhoni captain of the Indian team, otherwise, Yuvraj Singh was supposed to become the captain. He also said that Dhoni got a well-set team, unlike Ganguly, who had to build a team from scratch.

It’s destiny that Yuvraj was supposed to become the captain but Dhoni got the captaincy as well as a well-built team,” he added.

Earlier, Yograj Singh had mentioned that Yuvraj Singh should have played more cricket for India, but was backstabbed by both Dhoni and Kohli, who kept him out of the team and betrayed him.

One of the finest white-ball cricketers of his generation, Yuvraj played his last game for the Indian team on June 30, 2017, in an ODI against the West Indies. He hung his boots on June 10, 2019.
