With the Indian batting line-up looking far from at its best, playing an extra bowler in Dharamshala seemed the least likely option that the team management would consider. Yet, at the toss, stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane confirmed that the team is fielding an extra spinner in its line-up for the fourth and final, series-deciding Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2017.

Being that spinner, Kuldeep Yadav must've been a bag of nervous energy before delivering his first ball. As it happened, though, Kuldeep ended Day 1 with a four-fer that didn't let the Aussies take full advantage of a flat wicket and ensured India stays on par.
For Kuldeep, the first wicket, where he had David Warner in two minds whether to go forward or back and be caught by first slip, remains the most special memory of that Test.
"Well I have a lot on my list, but Warner was my first wicket hence it will always be memorable," the 25-year-old told India TV. "For any player, making a Test debut is always a highlight of his career. It would have been better had it been a five-wicket haul. But I am happy to have contributed significantly to the victory."
India responded with 332 to Australia's first-innings total of 300 before the class of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja shone through, as they took three wickets apiece to dismiss the Aussies for just 137 late on Day 3. KL Rahul then scored yet another half-century in that series to complete the formalities for India on the next morning.
Kuldeep didn't take a wicket in the second innings, but learnt a lot watching his more experienced teammates go about their business.
The wrist-spinner, who has been magnificent for India in white-ball cricket since then, hasn't played in the Test matches as frequently.
But in the six Tests that Kuldeep has played so far, he boasts of 24 wickets at an average of 24.12, including two five-wicket hauls.
