England's limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan reckons T10 format is ideal for cricket's return to the Olympics in more than a century as that would allow the organisers to squeeze in an entire tournament within 10 days.

Cricket hasn't been played at the quadrennial sporting event since 1900, which has also played a role in its limited growth outside the traditional markets.

"The one thing that T10 offers above the three formats that makes it so appealing to an Olympic Games or a Commonwealth Games is the fact that you can play a whole tournament in the space of 10 days," Morgan said in a video conference after the launch of Abu Dhabi T10, scheduled to be played later this year. 

"To have a tournament in such a short space of time maximises the opportunity and the exposure that it will have for the sport."

"When you can play a cricket tournament in eight-10 days it really does make it appealing, and on top of that it really would be extremely entertaining," added the 33-year-old, who led England to the 2019 World Cup glory. 

Many feel T10 is too short a game for cricketing skills to come to the fore, but Morgan said the format has its own merits and challenges for players involved. 

"The most important part of a T20 game is always overs 10 to 20," he said. "But if you look at a T10 game, the earlier overs are the most important."

"You need to make the most of that very short powerplay, so who you put in those key positions and in the form that they’re in, is the most critical factor," added Morgan, who will be captaining Delhi Bulls in Abu Dhabi T10 league.
