As India continues to fight against the global Coronavirus pandemic, veteran Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra is busy in doing his bit these days to help COVID-19 affected peoples in the country.

The ongoing COVID-19 lockdown to tackle the spread of the deadly virus has left many people struggling for food and other essential items. However, several cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Mishra have been coming forward to help the needy in this crisis.

Well, the India spinner has been distributing food items among the needy people for quite some time now and even now he is continued to do the same amid the lockdown.

Besides donating food and other essentials to the needy people, the cricketer has also donated the PPE kits in certain small hospitals as well as asked some of his friends in non-governmental organizations (NGOs) if his help was required.

As per reports in Sportstar, Mishra said: “I have fed the poor in temples, old-age homes and orphanages before, but the crisis now is much larger and all of us need to act. I believe I can contribute my bit to the society. When my friends texted me, communicating about all the problems around, I thought, ‘Why not help people out?’.”

The 37-year-old added, “I recently got to know about the crisis in PPE (personal protective equipment) kits in certain small hospitals. So, I donated what I could to some doctors and health officials.”

He also lauded the former India cricketer and Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Parliament Gautam Gambhir’s efforts in this critical time. He added, “No, I haven’t told him yet (about my work). But yes, he is doing a great job. We are all helping in our own little ways.”

All the games have been suspended due to the global crisis including IPL 2020, where was to play for Delhi Capitals, and the spinner was against the idea of resuming game in this situation.

Mishra signed off by saying, “If cricketing action would have gone on as normal during the lockdown, then the chances of COVID-19 spreading would have been much higher. It is better that we do away with this situation first and then wait for the IPL to return.”
