Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers has given us one of the most interesting news since the Coronavirus pandemic spread across the world.

After playing 114 Tests, 228 ODIs, and 78 T20Is, De Villiers quit international cricket in May 2018 but there were reports that he was ready to play for the country in the ICC ODI World Cup 2019 in England.

Since then, the South African cricket team has found it difficult to compete and thus they needed De Villiers to come back and play for them. Given that Faf du Plessis then resigned from captaincy, De Villiers has now revealed that there have been talks about him coming back and leading the national side.

“The desire is there from my side to play for South Africa and I have been asked by Cricket South Africa to lead the Proteas again,” he said on Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected.

However, he feels that he really needs to deserve a place in the XI to be able to lead the side well and not just play because he is being made the captain.

He said, “The most important thing to me is that I have got to be in top form and I have got to be better than the player next to me. If I feel I deserve my spot in the side, it becomes much easier for me to feel that I should be part of the playing XI.”

“I have not been part of the Proteas for a while and I feel that it's important for myself and for other people to see that I am still good enough to be there. However, with the virus going around, I don't know what's going to happen with the schedule,” he added.

It will surely help the fans to get back to cheering their heroes on the cricket field whenever the sport resumes if legends like AB de Villiers take the field.
