Just like everyone in the cricket fraternity, legendary India opener Sunil Gavaskar is currently spending time at home in the wake of Coronavirus pandemic, which has claimed more than 210,000 lives and infected over 3,000,000 people globally thus far.
India too has been dented by the COVID-19 outbreak as the country reported in excess of 28,000 cases and about 880 deaths as of April 28.
India has been under nationwide lockdown since March 25 in the fight against Coronavirus and Gavaskar is obeying the guidelines like a truly responsible citizen. But in the process, he has ended up sporting a white beard.
Speaking to India Today, Gavaskar on Monday (April 27) opened up about his quarantine routine.
"Basically I have been taking it a bit easy, waking up late, catching up on a bit of breeding. Then in the evenings I go for a walk on my terrace and I could tell you that you will be surprised to know that I have almost come down to my debut series weight - just 0.03 kgs more than what my weight was when I made my debut. Also, the fact that because of the restrictions, your diets are also restricted. Also, watch some TV serials or something like that in the evening. Overall, just pretty happy to be staying at home actually," the batting great said.
Gavaskar, however, rued the fact that his entire family couldn't be with him at this moment.
"In the ultra-slow lane (living life in). I would be very happy if my entire family was here with me but that's not the case. But thankfully with all these new contraptions you can actually see each other and talk to each other so that's a big plus as well," he added.
Earlier this month, Gavaskar had contributed Rs 59 lakhs in the battle against COVID-19. He donated Rs 35 lakh to PM-CARES fund and Rs 24 lakh to the Maharashtra state government's COVID-19 relief fund.
Asked about the same, Gavaskar said his donation is 'nothing' compared to what a few others are doing.
"Yes I got 35 hundreds for India in Tests and ODIs so I gave that (35 lakhs) to the PM-CARES fund and I got 24 for Mumbai so I gave the same amount to the Maharashtra CM-Relief fund. But that's nothing and people are doing much more and if the govt. wants me to anything more I would be very happy to do that. I am what I am only because of India," he concluded.
