KL Rahul's World Cup 2019 bat sold for Rs 2.6 lakh in auction to help underprivileged children

Rahul also auctioned a number of other cricketing equipments with the proceeds going to the 'Aware Foundation'.

KL Rahul | GettyIndia cricketer KL Rahul has auctioned the bat he used during the World Cup 2019 for a sum of INR 2,64,228. Alongside his brand Gully, he also auctioned a number of other cricketing equipments with the proceeds going to the 'Aware Foundation' to aid underprivileged children during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Among other precious memorabilia that Rahul chose to auction include his helmet for INR 1,22,677, pads for INR 33,028, ODI jersey for INR 1,13,240, T20 jersey for INR 1,04,824, Test jersey for INR 1,32,774 and gloves for INR 28,782.

Rahul, who turned 28 on April 18, had announced that the auction would be conducted in collaboration with Bharat Army – the fan club of the Indian team.

"Since it's a special day for me, me and Gully have decided to something very sweet and something very special. I have decided to donate my cricket pads, my gloves, helmets and some of my jerseys to our collaboration partner Bharat Army. They are going to auction these things out and the funds will go towards the Aware Foundation,” Rahul had said last week.

"It's a foundation that look towards helping children. It is very special and I couldn't pick a better day to do this. Go on check out the auction and show some love for me and the children and let’s stay strong together during this difficult time and all of us will come out of this stronger," he added.

Besides Rahul, the superstars of Indian cricket such as Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Sourav Ganguly, Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Gautam Gambhir, among others have also come forward to help the needy in this time of crisis.

India has been under lockdown since March 25 in the fight against COVID-19. The lockdown was initially scheduled to end on April 14 but to flatten the curve of growing cases, the government decided to extend it till May 3.
