England bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes is one of the cricketers who is itching to go out and play cricket for the country once again but is restricted by the widespread Coronavirus pandemic.

Given the upward trend of the COVID-19 cases around the world, international cricket with capacity crowds seems a distant view at the moment and one way going forward is that the game can be played behind closed doors if the healthcare facilities deem it safe.

But for this to happen, the players would have to be quarantined for a few days before being allowed to play if tested negative.

Woakes said, “If the players had to be put in quarantine for a period of time I think players would be happy to do so. If after this... cricket was allowed to come back again and it was at a venue where there was space for players on site, then I think players would be happy to do that but obviously it depends on how long it is to be for.”

“If it was going to be a three-four week window then I think guys would be open to being able to do that without too many issues,” he added.

He further went on to mention that players with young families would hesitate to play at the moment but still playing behind closed doors seems a viable option if allowed by healthcare experts.

The 31-year-old said, “There are a lot of people with young families. I’m not sure how it would work... The guys have started to think about playing behind closed doors because it kind of looks like there is a high probability of that happening.”
