Zimbabwe's limited-overs series at home against Ireland got indefinitely postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to cricket's global suspension.
But coach Lalchand Rajput is ensuring that his players aren't compromising on their fitness at home, keeping a weekly watch on them through technology after creating a training module encompassing both the physical and mental aspects.
"We have given a training programme to the players. The activities we have included are the ones which can be done at home like skipping, side to side running and there bands. We have also included stretching and Yoga activities," Rajput told PTI.
The former India batsman said this training programme was created with utmost seriousness before being shared across to Zimbabwe's team trainer and director of coaching.
"Skipper Sean Williams messages me sometimes about what he does, also one-two others are also in touch with me. Not all players are from Harare (a prominent city)," he said.
"I have asked the trainer to follow up with the players on a day-to-day basis and he informs me on a weekly (basis) about the development."
Rajput also informed that the players have been told to keep in touch with the team psychologist in order to avoid any negative thoughts in this phase.
Further, the 58-year-old has requested Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) to ensure there is a month of rigorous on-field training for players whenever it goes about rescheduling the fixtures.
"Once the action resumes, it won't be feasible to immediately start the tours as they will need practice," he said, thanking the board for all its support.
After heading home straight from the tour of Bangladesh in March, Rajput is spending time with his family in India, where there is an extended lockdown imposed.
