Australia is set to host the T20 World Cup in October 2020 if the Coronavirus pandemic allows the tournament to go ahead as planned. The Australian cricket team recovered from their lows just before the ODI World Cup in 2019 and are on the right track to be one of the contenders to win the T20 title this year.

Limited-overs vice-captain and wicket-keeper Alex Carey is happy with the hosts’ team for the tournament. He believes that the batting order is quite stable and the bowlers know their job well.

Carey said in a Cricket Australia video release, “Keeping the group together and keeping it quite consistent. We know our opening batters will be Finch and Warner, you throw Steve Smith in at the top. We've been pretty consistent with our line-up the last 6-12 months. It's really valuable doing that, you know what your bowlers' strengths are, what the spinners can do, Zampa and Agar were fantastic, and the top of the order were making the runs.”

Finch open to idea of Australia fielding two teams on same day under cramped schedule

It was very enjoyable. Quite a consistent group with our roles being very specific. We had a really good understanding. I'm very optimistic. If in six months' time the World Cup goes ahead, we're playing some really good cricket, we like our conditions. I know the guys are still keeping fit and staying strong. If we do get an opportunity to play, I think our game will be ready to go," he added.

Carey also said that it was good that the Australian team ended their summer on a winning note which has made the break enjoyable for the players. They can now train and interact more freely. He also mentioned that the players are eager to play T20 cricket whether its IPL or the World Cup.

At the moment, I probably can't say if we're going to be hitting the ground running, but it's a well-earned break for the Australian cricket team. We're lucky in that we finished the summer pretty well, so the guys could put their feet up, refresh and be really keen when the doors open to go and train and interact more freely. The guys will be very keen to be ready to play, whether it's the IPL, the T20 World Cup,” he added.
