England’s limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan revealed that having the Lord's Cricket Ground as his home ground early on in his career helped him develop the reverse sweep shot in his batting arsenal.

Speaking to the official website of IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Morgan revealed that the unorthodox reverse sweep shots were his favorite and he often employed it against the spinners to negate field placings but now he isn’t using it now, as opponents had become wise to it these days.

England’s 2019 World Cup-winning captain would have been playing for the KKR in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 if the ongoing global Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic didn’t happen.

The premier tournament was slated to begin from March 29, but now it’s fat in jeopardy with India extended lockdown till April 30 due to increasing cases of the deadly virus.

The KKR quoted Morgan as saying: “I started playing reverse-sweep when I first came to London as a 16-year old and signed up at Middlesex. Playing at Lords, the boundaries were very short square of the wicket and they are really long straight. When I played in the first team as a 17-18-year-old, trying to clear the long straight boundary at Lords was very difficult for me.”

He signed off by saying, “So, I started playing a lot more sweeps than probably your average player just because they were more effective at our home ground. I sort of drilled the reverse sweep and swept for as long as I could. The reverse sweep has been one of my favorite shots because it's been so effective over the years. I probably play it less and less now because things have changed and people have started setting fields for that.”
