Shoaib Akhtar cycling in Islamabad amidst COVID 19 lockdown | InstagramFormer Pakistani bowler Shoaib Akhtar was recently on the target of social media after posting a video of him cycling on the streets of Islamabad, the Capital of Pakistan. This was because the city is under lockdown to check the spread of Coronavirus pandemic which has seen over 5,000 positive cases in the country and 86 deaths.

Cycling in my beautiful city. Lovely weather. Empty roads.Best work out. #islamabad #pakistan,” Shoaib had captioned the video he posted on Facebook and Instagram. However, his fans were not happy with him flouting the rules and putting himself and others in danger of contracting this deadly virus.

Shoaib Akhtar points out why Team India have failed to win an ICC event since 2013

"Wrong time to go out. Looking at you many others may try to emulate. Stay safe, stay healthy," a user commented on the video.

"Such a selfish gesture in a situation where people are dying and he is enjoying empty roads and weather of a beautiful city," wrote another.

"Celebrities of the world are giving awareness to common people about COVID 19, and then we came up with our role models who is doing this nonsense in Lockdown situation and making it public," another angry user commented.

"You are my favorite bowler but it is not good to see you roaming during such conditions," a fan commented.

"Yes lovely weather but you are a celebrity and our people blindly follow you. Do you want people to come outside without mask and get infected with corona," wrote another user.

Before this, Akhtar had said that if India gives Pakistan 10,000 ventilators, it will be a gesture that the country will never forget and was admonished by his countrymen for the same.

The first bowler ever to officially break the barrier of 100mph, Akhtar has proposed a 3-match ODI series between India and Pakistan to raise funds in the fight against COVID-19, an idea shot down by many including India’s World cup winning captain Kapil Dev.
