Legendary Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar was disappointed with the way the young pacer Hasan Ali’s injury was handled, highlighting the “mess up” with training at the national fast-bowling camp.

The fast-bowler recently managed just eight wickets in his 9 outings for the Peshawar Zalmi at 34.37 in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 after having spent months on the sidelines due to the cortical rib fractures. He fractured the ninth rib on his right side and eighth and ninth ribs on his left side.

There has been a lot of confusion regarding the 25-year-old’s injury, as former Pakistan bowling coach Azhar Mahmood claimed that it happened when Hasan was made to deadlift “130 to 140 kilograms of weight”, while his successor Waqar Younis said he “got injured during a first-class match”.

Well, Akhtar believes that Hasan wasn’t managed properly and his injury was the result of over-training and overwork while claiming that the pacer went through wrong training.

He also feels that “the learning process of Pakistan cricketers is very slow” because “they do not know the anatomy of their body and how to do high repetition training”.

Akhtar was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan: “Hasan got injured due to training as well as overwork. Plus, he played a lot of cricket for the past year or two and wasn’t managed properly.”

He further added, “When I met him 25 days ago, I told him to do light and high repetition training so there is no stiffness and rigidness in his muscle. He is looking very weak and his shoulders [are] also very thin. He went through the wrong training and was asked to lift heavy weights.”

Akhtar signed off by saying, “There was a bit mess up from everybody along with Hasan Ali. However, Azhar should have said all this when he was looking after him but I don’t understand why he is saying all this now,”
