India batsman Shreyas Iyer has been a regular part of the side for a while now. He has proved his worth with good knocks at regular intervals. The 25-year-old was asked to bat at India's most cursed batting position, number 4 and he has done well till now.

Talking about the moment he was given India's cap, on the show Spicy Pitch, Iyer said he didn't feel emotional. The youngster felt he deserved to play for India a little earlier.

"To be honest, I wasn't that emotional. When I got the cap because I felt that I should have gotten it way before. So whenever I was given the cap, I was like..okay..normal. I didn't feel much," he said.

Iyer made his debut for India in 2017. He played his first ODI against Sri Lanka in December, after featuring in a T20I match against New Zealand earlier that year in November.

Shreyas, who scored his first ODI hundred recently against New Zealand, said former India legendary batsman Rahul Dravid's tips have helped him get better.

He was under the guidance of Dravid with India A which made him mature as a batsman. "It was a four-day match and Rahul Dravid was seeing me for the first time," he said.

"It was the first day's last over. I was batting on 30 or something, so everyone thought [that since] it is the last over I'll play out the over, I'll play it carefully and finish it. Rahul Dravid sir was sitting inside. He [the bowler] bowled a flighted delivery, so I stepped out and hit it in the air. It went high up in the air and it was a six. Everyone in the dressing room came out running, they were looking up, and thinking who plays the last over like this.

"That day he [Rahul Dravid] judged me for how I am. He came to me and he was like "Boss! What is this? [It is the] day's last over and you're doing this?" But later on, I started realizing what he was trying to say."

Iyer led Delhi Capitals to playoffs in last year's IPL. He was asked about whether he has thoughts of leading the Indian cricket team in the future, to which he said, "Yes I have. I have not given a thought about it at the moment. I am thinking about the present. Not thinking much about my captaincy in the future. I just want to be in the moment and enjoy it right now."
