In 2016, the ICC T20 World Cup was held in India and it was time for another Caribbean celebration as the West Indies team reached the finals after beating the hosts in a thrilling knockout encounter. They would go on to face England in the finals. Both teams had won the tournament once before.

The final was played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, on this day, April 3 and went down in folklore thanks to one man, Carlos Brathwaite. Windies had won the toss and asked England to bat first. Joe Root's 54 runs and Jos Buttler's 36-run knock enabled them to post a respectable total of 155/9.

Dwayne Bravo scalped three wickets while Samuel Badree picked two scalps for the Windies. In the second straight final, Marlon Samuels anchored a tough chase with a brilliant 85* runs in 66 balls and his inning was peppered with nine fours and two sixes.

However, when the crunch time came, Carlos Brathwaite came to the party making 34* runs in just 10 balls at a strike rate of 340. The Men in Maroon required 19 runs off the last over, bowled by Ben Stokes, to win their second World T20 title.

Brathwaite slammed Stokes for four brutal sixes, all of which went into the crowd and made the West Indies team the first-ever two-time T20 World Champions. Marlon Samuels was named Man of the Match, while Virat Kohli won the Man of the tournament award for the second straight time.
