Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri and veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh have supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to display a collective spirit by lighting up the entire country on April 5 to fight the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

As India continues to fight the global Coronavirus pandemic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked all the people to give 9 minutes for a symbolic message in the fight against the deadly virus amid the 21-day lockdown to tackle the spread of the novel COVID-19 in the country.

Addressing the nation for the third time during the ongoing outbreak on Friday (April 3) – day 9 of the nationwide lockdown, Modi has urged his all citizens to awaken the power of 130 crore Indians to challenge the darkness spread by the COVID-19 crisis in the country.

PM Modi has asked the people across the country to switch off their lights on Sunday (April 5) and lights up lamps, torches, candles or even use mobile phone's flashlights for 9 minutes while maintaining social distancing to show solidarity in order to fight against the darkness created by the coronavirus.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Shastri said: “To reignite the united strength of 130 Crore people, let us light a lamp | a candle | torch | mobile flashlight at 9 pm for 9 minutes on Sunday - 5th April. Let's build up a new energy to fight this #COVID crisis #IndiaFightsCorona #SocialDistancing - @narendramodi @ianuragthakur,”

While Harbhajan said: “Every individual has his own part to do 2 stay home. We r proud of our Team Leader @narendramodi Let's all continue to Stay home & be Safe.5th April at 9 pm for 9mins all lights off. Candles, Diya, torch, mobile flash to use bt only from home. No Streets Show Please.”

Noteworthy, the total number of COVID-19 cases jumped to 2300 in India with 56 deaths while the disease killed around 5000 people globally so far.
