Yuvraj Singh believes Team India needs a psychologist who would talk to the players about their off-the-field issues.

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh retired from international cricket close to 10 months ago. In a recent interview, he has revealed that the Indian team needs a psychologist like Paddy Upton to help the players deal with their off-the-field issues.

Didn’t get Ganguly-like support from Dhoni and Virat, says Yuvraj Singh

Singh told Sportstar, “This Indian team needs a good guy who can talk to them on matters off the field. Their off-the-field issues reflect on their on-field performances. What they need is a psychologist of authority who can guide them in personal issues.

He explained the importance of somebody like Paddy Upton, who helped them win the World Cup in 2011. Players often feel uncomfortable off-the-field because of the pressure they have and fear of failure that international athletes are expected to have.

Upton listened to players’ issues and made them feel comfortable and thus it reflected on their on-field performance according to Yuvraj.

Make them better persons. We had Paddy Upton who would discuss other issues of life, like fear of failure, and it helped us so much. The team probably needs someone like him,” the 38-year-old added.
