Billings shaves his head for a noble cause | TwitterJust like any other cricketer, England batsman Sam Billings is staying home during the Coronavirus lockdown. However, it hasn’t stopped him from doing his bit to help the country in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Tuesday (March 31), Billings shaved his head to help raise funds for the National Health Service (NHS).

The nationwide head shave campaign states: “To show our support for the wonderful work the NHS continue to do during the Coronavirus crisis, we aim to raise as much money as possible through a nationwide head shave Instagram campaign.”

The fundraising scheme has set a goal of £20,000 and more than half the amount has been generated. Funds raised will go towards protective clothing for nurses and doctors, more hospital beds or equipment to support those who are suffering from the deadly disease.

“I want to say a huge thank you to all of the NHS staff around the country fighting this virus,” Billings had recently said. “There are 7,500 doctors and nurses who have come out of retirement as well to fight this virus on the front line. You are all absolute heroes and we admire you are doing. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We are going to do our own little bit and stay at home as well.”

As of Tuesday (March 31), UK has tested more than 22,000 positive cases for COVID-19 and recorded 1400 deaths due to the epidemic, which has claimed over 38,000 lives globally while infecting nearly 800,000.
