India skipper Virat Kohli and his actor wife Anushka Sharma have extended their support to the PM-CARES Fund & the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (Maharashtra) in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.
Although the couple didn’t reveal the donated amount, a report published in Hindustan Times claims that they jointly contributed Rs 3 Crore.
On Monday (March 30), Kohli took to Twitter and said that the "suffering of so many" had left him and Anushka heartbroken and hoped that their contribution helps ease "the pain of our fellow citizens".
Besides, Indian cricketers such as Gautam Gambhir, Sourav Ganguly, Pathan brothers (Irfan and Yusuf), Shikhar Dhawan among others have also come forward to help the needy in this time of crisis.
Gambhir has contributed Rs 50 lakh from his MPLAD fund for COVID-19 treatment equipment whereas Ganguly has pledged to donate rice worth Rs 50 lakh for the poor.
On the other hand, Pathan brothers have donated face masks and Dhawan has contributed to the Prime Minister's relief fund.
As of March 31, the COVID-19 outbreak has claimed more than 37,000 lives and infected over 785,000 people globally. In India, around 1300 confirmed cases have been reported while 38 people have lost their lives thus far.
