The COVID-19 outbreak has not only created a panic amongst people but also affected a lot of sporting activities. The 2020 edition of Asia Cup is one such tournament as a large cloud of uncertainty looms over the tournament even though no final decision is made on canceling it.

While big sporting activities like 2020 edition of IPL and the Tokyo Olympics were postponed due to this Coronavirus pandemic, no final decision about the Asia Cup which is scheduled in September is taken yet clarified PCB chief Ehsan Mani.

BCCI official says Asia Cup T20 might not happen due to COVID-19 outbreak

There has not been any discussion on the matter yet. Nothing has been decided,” Mani was quoted saying by Sportstar.

As the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had the hosting rights this time around there were speculations about Asia Cup to be played at a neutral venue as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was refusing to send their players to Pakistan.

But the ACC’s meeting to take a decision on this year’s Asia Cup that was scheduled earlier this month was called off due to the COVID-19 outbreak and is yet to happen.

We haven’t decided on a date for the meeting either. The ACC is monitoring the situation and will take a call accordingly,” Mani said.

Even though ACC chief, Nazmul Hasan Papon could not be reached for a comment on this, an official clarified that the meeting will be taking place once the situation improves across the globe.

At this point in time, cricket is the last thing in anyone’s mind. But the member nations and the ACC are keeping an eye on how things go. There is still some time left for the Asia Cup, so a meeting on that could only be held once the situation improves,” an official said.
