Former New Zealand cricketer Iain O’Brien has requested Twitterati to help him via crowdfunding to buy flight tickets and go back home to his ailing wife and children.

Iain O’Brien, who has played 22 Tests, 10 ODIs and 4 T20Is, now lives in the UK with his wife and two children. He had flown back to New Zealand to treat some mental health issues and is now stuck there and not being able to get back to his family due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

His wife has a lung condition that makes her more prone to the Coronavirus and O’Brien wants to take care of her by reaching home as soon as possible. He has, therefore, asked his social media followers to chip in some amount so that he can buy flight tickets and fly home. In return, he is ready to answer questions about cricket, politics, sausages, mental health, Sachin, etc.

He had talked about his wife’s condition to stuff.co.nz. He said, “The big bit for me is my wife has a lung condition where if she gets any sort of chest infection it can take time off her life. This virus could kill her. With a couple of kids for her to deal with, and her mum is 80, there's a fair bit on her plate at the moment. I would be kind of keen to take some of that stress off her but I think I'm just adding to it at the moment.

O’Brien wrote on Twitter, “Ok, so trying to raise some money to pay for this flight back to the UK. I have an idea.  If anyone would love a 20 min Skype/vid call, one on one, talk about all things cricket, politics, sausages, mental health, Sachin, etc. If you’d like that & can spare a couple of $£, DM me
