Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has opened up on how he is dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, which has claimed more than 21,000 lives and infected over 472,000 people globally.

In India, around 650 confirmed cases have been reported while 15 people have lost their lives as of Thursday (March 26).

Considering the grave circumstances, India Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (March 24) announced that the country will be under complete lockdown for the next three weeks.

In a column for Hindustan Times, Ganguly stated that he is enjoying his stay at home amid the lockdown as he is getting to spend time with family.

"It has been great to spend time with my family though. Everyone in my family is at home; my daughter Sana too. She has no choice but to be at home," he wrote.

"Yes, the Covid-19 pandemic has made life challenging for everyone. Every day is a challenge. But again, that’s what life is. The streets of Kolkata are deserted. There is not a soul on the roads. But that is the case everywhere.

"To bide my time I try to handle my social media accounts myself, as much as I can."

The BCCI chief also revealed that he is maintaining a workout routine to stay in good shape.

"Another way to spend this time is to maintain a routine and workout everyday. I have a gym at home, so that routine hasn’t changed much. I workout for about an hour or so, whenever I get the time during the day. For five days a week.

"Do I spend time watching old footage of my playing days? The simple answer is no. I don’t play anymore, so I watch movies on Netflix. It is easy to make some time to watch movies anytime in the day."

"Nobody among us has experienced anything of this sort in our lives. What we are experiencing right now is new to everyone, so we just have to be patient, remain safe and hope that it will pass."

The Coronavirus crisis has also brought cricket to a grinding halt as all the series and tournaments have been either cancelled or postponed.

Earlier this month, IPL 2020 was rescheduled from March 29 to April 15 due to the epidemic but following the announcement of nationwide lockdown, the cancellation of cash-rich event looks inevitable.
