The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has offered Abdur Razzak, who is still an active cricketer, a role in Bangladesh’s selection panel after the post was left vacant with the exit of Faruque Ahmed.

Ahmed’s departure has left the BCB selection panel with two selectors in Minhajul Abedin and Habibul Bashar and in the hunt for the third member to replace him.

It is being said that the BCB approached the 37-year-old, who retired from the limited-overs format but is still an active Test cricketer and plays in the domestic circuit, but the leg-spinner is yet to respond to the proposal despite taking time since the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League recently.

BCB cricket operations chairman Akram Khan said: “I have asked Habibul Bashar [selector] to know his [Razzak] mind regarding our proposal [of being part of the selection panel]. Razzak is taking time as he is playing in the DPL. We are not sure whether he wants to prolong his career or not.”

Meanwhile, Razzak - who has 13 Tests to his name with last appearance coming against Sri Lanka in 2018 admitted that he has been offered the role by the BCB but he is still thinking of the offer because of his commitments with a club in the DPL.

However, the league was postponed because of COVID-19 pandemic but the bowler insisted that he doesn’t want to take any decision in hurry, calling it a tough one as he is living on cricket for a long time.

Razzak further explained, “Yes they have contacted me but I wanted some time to decide. I have told them that I will let them know after the Dhaka Premier League matches. Now as the league is postponed, I can think about this now.”

He signed off by saying, “I have to leave cricket for this new job and it is not an easy decision for me because I am living on cricket for a long time. I have to take time to decide so that later I don't have any regret whatsoever.”

Noteworthy, the BCB is also reportedly considering former opener Shahriar Nafees and former pacer Manjurul Islam for the role but they have been not contacted by the board yet.
