Former West Indian batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul has showered rich praise on Virat Kohli, saying the Indian captain is the best batsman in world cricket at the moment.

Calling the dashing right-hander his favorite cricketer of this generation, Chanderpaul said it’s not easy to stay at the top of your game for so long, but Kohli has been dominating the game across the format for long and for which he should be given credit for putting in efforts “day in and day out”.

Kohli has been dominating the batting charts across all formats for the past few years, as he is currently the No. 1 ODI batsman, No. 2 Test batsman and one of the top 10 T20I batsmen in the world and Chanderpaul believes that the ace Indian batsman is reaping the rewards for working hard on all aspects of his game including his fitness.

Chanderpaul told Sportstar: “Obviously, it's Virat Kohli. He has been working on all the aspects of his game, and the results are showing. He is working hard on his fitness; he works on his skills.”

He further added, “You see him putting in the hard work, and he is one of those guys who always wants to do well. He's proven it, day in and day out. You have to give credit to him for that. It's not easy to stay at the top of your game for so long. You got to put in your work, and the results are showing.”

Meanwhile, he also commented on West Indies’ chances in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2020 to be held in Australia later this year, saying his home side has one of the best T20I squads in the world, and they just need to play as hard as they can to retain the title.

He further explained: “Well, West Indies have always had players for the shorter format. Yet again, it all depends on how well you perform on that day because, in the T20 format, anybody could win on that day. We always have a lot of match-winners, that's the good thing about us.”

Chanderpaul signed off by saying, “With the power hitters, good bowlers they play a major part in the shorter format. So, we still have one of the best T20 squads around. But we still have to go out and play well to win matches. Don't take anyone lightly, play as hard as we can, and we will win.”
