"I have no symptoms or anything like that, but I'm following government guidelines," Sangakkara told News First.

"I arrived from London over a week ago and the first thing was there was a news bulletin saying that anyone who had travelled from within March 1 to 15 should register themselves with the police and undergo self-quarantine. I registered myself with the police."

The 42-year-old, who bid adieu to his storied career with Sri Lanka in 2015, said this in wake of the government confirming that at least three cases of recent returnees attempting to hide the novel Coronavirus symptoms from authorities have been observed.

Sangakkara, like his ex-teammate and dear friend Mahela Jayawardene, has been very active over social media to urge people of Sri Lanka to practice social distancing and take all other precautionary measures given the situation is grave.

More than 80 cases of people being tested positive of COVID-19 have been reported in Sri Lanka so far.

Globally, the tally of people infected has risen to three lakhs, of which 14,000 have been declared dead.

In another news, former Australia pacer Jason Gillespie has also gone on a two-week isolation after returning from the UK where he is head coach of Sussex county cricket club. Sussex's pre-season tour of Cape Town was cut short due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
