West Indian cricket legend Sir Viv Richards is regarded as one of the best batsmen to have graced the game of cricket and it would be really nothing less than a bizarre if someone who follows this game could not recognize or say he didn’t hear about this master batsman.
Well, Javed Miandad, one of the most successful batsmen of Pakistan’s cricket history, has recently revealed an interesting anecdote regarding Sir Richards.
He recalled when a child asked Richards who he was, the flamboyant batsman’s reply was full of swagger like his batting, as he told him to “go to a library and find about me”.
Miandad was quoted as saying by PakPassion: “Players don’t need to talk about their performances – when they perform well in the ground, then the whole world talks about you. Once a kid asked Viv Richards – who are you? He replied (don’t ask me) go to a library and find about me.”
Meanwhile, the former Pakistan captain also revealed that he used to read the newspapers when he was performing badly in his illustrious career so that he could find out public perception as well as what the media was talking about him.
He further explained, “When you wake up in the morning, read the newspapers to see what people are saying about you and take that in a positive manner. When I performed well, I wouldn’t read the papers as I knew that they would say nice things about me.”
Miandad signed off by saying, “When you do badly is when you should read the papers to see what people are saying about you. And also how would your family feel if they read this opinion about you – this is what we used to look for.”
