Former Indian all-rounder Sanjay Bangar is likely to work with Bangladesh, as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) approaches former India assistant coach for the Test batting consultant role.
The 47-year-old could be next seen as Bangladesh’s batting consultant in the red-ball format after being overlooked for Vikram Rathour as India’s batting coach last year.
Bangar, who served as Team India’s batting coach between 2014 and 2019, is likely to be offered a 110-day contract by the BCB, and even the Bangladesh board hopes to avail his services ahead of the two-match home Test series against Australia this June, though, nothing is finalized yet.
Previously, the BCB tried to convince Neil McKenzie, who is currently serving as a white-ball batting consultant, to extend his role to the Test format, but the former South Africa cricketer isn’t reportedly ready to coach all the formats on a regular basis.
As per reports in Cricbuzz, the BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury revealed on Wednesday (March 18): “We have spoken with Bangar [for Test batting consultant] but nothing is finalized yet. We are also negotiating with few others as well [for the Test batting consultant post].”
He added, “McKenzie is looking after the red-ball cricket despite being a white ball consultant and till we get a batting consultant for Test cricket we are expecting him to do the job [in red ball].”
Noteworthy, if both Bangar and BCB agree to work together, the former Indian cricketers would be reportedly given 110 days contract from June 2020 till February 2021.
