CAB follows BCCI and shuts down office and ask employees to work from home due to Coronavirus

The ongoing health crisis due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that has taken the world by storm and created a lot of panic amongst the people across the world and even forced many organizations either to be closed or asked the employees to work from home.

The spread of novel coronavirus in India has created panic in the country as well with the number of deadly COVID-19 cases jumping to 148 till the date – which forced the national sporting events to be postponed or canceled as well as many organizations told employees to work from home including the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) because of the coronavirus fears.

Well, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is the latest addition to the list, as the CAB on Tuesday (March 17) closed its office for the next five days and asked the employees to work from home.

In their general advisory, CAB secretary Debabrata Das said: “It is for restricting the people moving in the office. Therefore, the office of the Association will remain closed from Tuesday to Saturday as a precautionary measure against the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.”

Mr. Das further added, “However, it is clarified that managers and functional heads can take a decision to get employees to report to the office as per work exigency/priorities. During this period, it would be work from home which implies that the employees must be available on phone calls, emails and any other mode of communication during working hours.”

Meanwhile, the CAB president Avishek Dalmiya said in a statement: “The COVID-19 is a pandemic, and in line with advisories and directives from the WHO, both the Central Government and Government of West Bengal, we are taking precautionary measures to secure the safety and well-being of members of our staff. We look forward to support from all. Take care and stay safe.”

Noteworthy, the Coronavirus outbreak has so far claimed over 8000 lives and infected around 2 lakh peoples globally apart from wreaking havoc in the global sporting calendar.
