Cricket South Africa on Monday (March 16) joined the list of cricket boards around the world to have officially suspended all forms of the game in their respective countries fearing the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The cancellation period lasting the next 60 days will directly affect the first-class, limited-overs, semi-professional, junior and amateur cricket, and also country’s domestic 50-over championship, which is at the semi-final stage.

"We at CSA take this pronouncement by the President and the cabinet very seriously and we will most certainly use our leverage to ensure that we minimise the impact of the virus in our spaces," CSA acting chief executive Jacques Faul said in an official statement. 

"During this time of absolute caution and surveillance, we would like to call upon all our members and affiliates to desist from taking part in any cricket-related gatherings and other transversal events that will include the congregation of large numbers of people and/or up to 100 people."

South African Men's side is not due for an international assignment until July when it travels to face the West Indies, while the upcoming home limited-overs series of the women's team against Australia has already been postponed. 

As many as 62 cases of people being tested positive of coronavirus have been reported in South Africa. This, however, hasn't led to anyone's death in the country so far.
