March 16 remains a historic day in the annals of cricket, given that in the year 2012, one of the greatest Indian batsmen of all-time, Sachin Tendulkar became the first person to reach a century of centuries. This was the day on which Tendulkar made his 100th international century.

He achieved the feat during the Asia Cup 2012 match against Bangladesh in the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. He had opened the innings with Gautam Gambhir and went onto make 114 in 147 balls with 12 fours and 1 six to his name. the maestro already had 51 tons to his name in Test cricket and this century made history for him.

The ICC remembered this milestone in a tweet which read, “ONE HUNDRED ????s#OnThisDay in 2012, Sachin Tendulkar created history against Bangladesh, becoming the first batsman to register hundred international centuries ???? Next in the list are Ricky Ponting (71), Virat Kohli (70*) and Kumar Sangakkara (63).

Unfortunately, this ton was not enough for the Indian team to win the match, as Bangladesh chased down the target of 290 runs quite easily, thanks to half-centuries from Tamim Iqbal, Jahurul Islam, and Nasir Hossain.

The century record of Tendulkar, who bid adieu to international cricket in 2013, still stands untouched. The 47-year-old also has 164 fifties to his name while he amassed a whopping 34,357 runs during his stellar career.

Currently, Indian skipper Virat Kohli is at the third spot with 70 international hundreds to his name and the only possible candidate to break the record of Tendulkar.
