Bangladesh star batsman Soumya Sarkar has started new innings in life on Wednesday (February 26), as the cricketer tied the knot with 19-year-old Prionti Debnath Puja at Khulna Club.

The marriage ceremony took place in Khulna with all the rituals in the presence of local VIPs and cricket fraternity. Puja, who is hailing from Dhaka, completed her ‘O’ level examination this year from an English medium school in the capital.

However, Sarkar’s marriage was marred with an unfortunate incident taking place and the cricketer had to face embarrassment and trouble even on the most memorable day of his life.

Well, the happy occasion was disrupted by a scuffle over the stealing of as many as seven mobile phones, though the police later came to the spot and brought the situation under control.

It is being reported that all the seven cell phones belonged to the bridegroom’s side including one of Soumya’s father. However, the thieves were caught red-handed, but it led to a big brawl started with the suspects attacking Soumya’s family.

Soumya’s family managed to stop the journalists from capturing the incident and eventually the stolen mobile phones were recovered and the remainder of the marriage ceremony ended calmly at Khulna Club.

The all-rounder has taken a break from the national duty having missed a recent one-off Test against Zimbabwe, as he is not in the Bangladesh squad for the first two One Day Internationals. He has so far played 15 Tests, 55 ODIs and 48 T20Is for Bangladesh after making his debut in 2014.
