Former India all-rounder Robin Singh has been appointed the Director of Cricket of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday (February 12), replacing Dougie Brown who was recently sacked as head coach of the UAE national team, as per local media.
The 56-year-old, who had represented India in one Test and 136 ODIs between 1989 and 2001, has made a name for himself in coaching over the years and has also conducted coaching clinics in the UAE. He also worked with the Indian Premier League's highly successful franchise Mumbai Indians, Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League and various franchises in the T10 league here.
It is also reported that the Pacific Ventures Group – the owners of the Maratha Arabians, who recently won the T10 Cricket League title in the UAE, will be the new UAE team sponsor.
Robin takes over the charge of the UAE national team at a very tricky time, as they are currently trying to recover from the fixing scandal that rocked the cricket in the country last year, leading to the suspension of a few senior players including captain Mohammed Naveed and the selection panel.
Noteworthy, the former Indian all-rounder scored 2236 runs at an average of 25.95 and picked up 69 wickets in the 50-over format with the best of 5/22.
