Australia batsman David Warner on Monday (February 10) was crowned with the Allan Border Medal for his dominant 12 months with the bat.

It was Warner’s third Allan Border Medal having won the coveted prize in 2016 and 2017. The southpaw clinched the award ahead of former captain Steve Smith and ace speedster Pat Cummins.

As per a report published in cricket.com.au, Warner polled a total of 194 across the Test, ODI and T20I formats to finish a solitary vote ahead of Smith and nine votes clear of third-placed Cummins.

This award for being Australia’s pre-eminent men's cricketer shows Warner’s determination to return to the pinnacle after going through the horrible time post ball-tampering scandal.

While Warner was the second highest run-getter in last year’s ODI World Cup with 647 runs from 10 innings with three tons and as many fifties, he endured a torrid time in the five-Test Ashes series that yielded him just 95 runs at an average of 9.5.

But the left-hander bounced back with a century to start the home summer against Sri Lanka in a T20I at the Adelaide Oval. He tormented Pakistan by scoring an amazing 335 not out in the Day-Night Test and followed it up with 297 runs against the Kiwis in three Tests, which included a century at SCG.

During the voting period from January 8, 2019 to January 8, 2020, Warner aggregated 1815 runs at an average of 69.81. His closest rival, Smith, amassed 1553 runs at 62.12 with 11 half-centuries.
