PAK v BAN 2020: Haris Rauf eyes "best bowler" tag from Bangladesh T20Is

The 26-year-old impressed everyone with his performance for Melbourne Stars in the BBL.

Haris Rauf | GettyHaving received a maiden international call-up from Pakistan on the back of quality performances in Australia's Big Bash League, fast bowler Haris Rauf is hoping to make his debut with a bang versus Bangladesh in the three-match T20I series, beginning January 24.

First spotted by PSL franchise Lahore Qalandars at an open selection trial in 2017, Rauf picked up 16 wickets in just seven innings at an economy rate of just 6.90 for Melbourne Stars in flat batting conditions down under.

"I have set a target for myself and that is to be the best bowler of the series," AP quoted Rauf as saying before the first T20I in Lahore. "I have been performing well in the Big Bash League and will try to replicate that for my country."

As Pakistan looks at life beyond Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz, Rauf wants to repay faith shown by the selectors and the team management. He has previously said he wishes to go back to Australia for the T20 World Cup in October.

"I don’t think a bowler gets ignored if he knows he can bowl at 140 kph plus," said Rauf, who bowled in tandem with Dale Steyn in the BBL. "Whatever training I do, I try to maintain the pace. I touched 150 kph in Big Bash, but it’s not in my mind. My aim is to bowl consistently at 140 kph plus."

Presence of PSL teammate Shaheen Afridi, who along with Rauf is one of the four young fast bowlers in the rejigged Pakistan squad, must have really eased up some pressure on the 26-year-old.

"I have played with him in the PSL," Rauf said. "I will get another chance with him and I hope it will help us to perform."

Lahore also hosts the second and third T20Is on January 25 & 27, respectively.
