Former Indian internationals Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra have raised their voice against the proposed 4-day Test cricket at the Sportstar Aces Award at the Trident Hotel in Mumbai on Monday (January 13).

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has recently proposed the idea of trimming the evergreen format of the game – five-day Test Cricket to the four-day affair and will formally consider the plan for the 2023-2031 cycle with the ICC's cricket committee is set to discuss the heated matter in March.

While Australian, England, and South African board backed the ICC’s idea, many cricket fraternities have been opposing the four-day Test format and now Yuvraj and Nehra opposed the newly proposed format by the sport’s governing body.

Nehra said as quoted by Sportstar, “To be very honest, unless the ICC is in the mind to want to prepare rank turners or seaming wickets, it is different.”

He added, “Again I'll say it is not a great idea. When it comes to Test cricket, you know some things you shouldn't change or touch too much, because you see, so many times the result comes on day number five. So I'll be happy to have the same old five-day Test match.”

Meanwhile, Yuvraj also echoed Nehra’s views as he also agrees that the Test cricket should remain a five-day affair. He said, “I agree with what Nehra just said.”

Noteworthy, Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Ravi Shastri, Ricky Ponting, Ian Botham, Steve Waugh, and Virender Sehwag were largely critical about the idea while Michael Vaughan and Shane Warne supported the four-day format.
