Indian team clinches U19 Quadrangular Series in South Africa

Ahead of the upcoming Under-19 World Cup 2020, India has sent a warning to other teams by winning the Quadrangular U-19 Series against South Africa on Thursday (January 9) in the rainbow nation.

The tourists are warming up to the World Cup 2020 in a style, as the Piryam Garg-led side India remained unbeaten in the Quadrangular U-19 Series, thrashing South Africa Under-19 side by 69 runs in the final to clinch the title in Durban on Thursday.

India completed a dominant win over South Africa on the back of a delightful century by the wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel and a 4-wicket haul from left-arm spinner Atharva Ankolekar in the final of the Quadrangular series.

Jurel hit 101 off 115 balls with the help of eight boundaries and two sixes, while Tilak Varma struck 70 off 103 deliveries (7x4s, 1x6), as well as the two, shared 164 runs for the fourth wicket to stabilize India’s innings after poor start and took the team to a fighting total of 259 for seven.

Defending the competitive total in Durban, the left-arm orthodox bowler Ankolekar was a star for India, as he finished with the figures of 4/31 with Ravi Bishnoi taking 2 wickets to bundle out the South Africa batsmen for 190 in 43.1 overs in the final to clinch the title.

Meanwhile, BCCI took to Twitter to congratulate the India U-19 side for their great win over the hosts ahead of the world Cup 2020 starting here from 17 January to 9 February 2020.

The post reads: “Congratulations to the India U19 boys who seal a 69-run victory over the SA U19s in the #U19QuadSeries final ???????? Dhruv Jurel is adjudged the Man of the Match for his match-winning 101 ????????”
