Amid the speculations regarding MS Dhoni’s retirement, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly on Saturday (December 28) said the veteran wicketkeeper must have communicated his future plans to India captain Virat Kohli and selectors.

Dhoni is currently out of action from competitive cricket. He has last played for India in the World Cup 2019 semi-final against New Zealand. The 38-year-old, who missed India’s last four limited-overs series, hasn’t been named in the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka and Australia either.

"He's had communication with the captain, I am sure he has had communication with the selectors, and I don't think this is the platform to discuss about it," Ganguly said during the latest episode of 'Inspiration' on India Today.

Ganguly also showered rich praise on the 2011 World Cup-winning skipper, saying it will be difficult to get a player of Dhoni's calibre.

"It's his (Dhoni) decision what he wants to do, but I don't know. I haven't spoken to him, but he's a champion, he's been an absolute champion in Indian cricket."

"You won't get another M S Dhoni very, very soon, but what he does -- whether he wants to play, whether he doesn't want to play, is up to him."

While making an appearance at a promotional event last month, Dhoni avoided questions related to his retirement and said, "January tak mat poocho (don't ask me till January)" .

Dhoni had called time on his Test career back in December 2014 while he stepped down as India's limited-overs skipper in January 2017.
