England cricketers Ben Stokes, Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler have been named in Britain’s New Year’s Honours List after their brilliant performances in World Cup 2019.

The New Year’s Honours are awarded twice a year, once in January and once in June to mark the monarch’s official birthday. This year, the England Men's cricket team won its first-ever Cricket World Cup trophy in July at Lord’s.

Three cricketers from the winning team, captain Eoin Morgan, wicket-keeper Jos Buttler and all-rounder Ben Stokes have been named in the honours list. Stokes has been awarded the OBE, Officer of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II. The New Zealand-born all-rounder also rocked the Ashes series which was played right after the World Cup tournament and is one of the important series for England cricket.

Morgan also played a couple of breathtaking innings during the tournament and his decision to play Buttler as a floater in the team was crucial. The left-hander created history by becoming England’s first World cup-winning captain in the ODI format.

The other players to be awarded are England Test skipper Joe Root, Manchester City footballer Jill Scott, England netball stars Serena Guthrie and Joanne Harten, Football Association's director of women's football Sue Campbell, double Olympic taekwondo champion Jade Jones and golfer Catriona Matthew.

While Stokes got an OBE, Morgan has been made a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire), and Buttler and Root got MBEs (Member of the Order of the British Empire).
