Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin finished the decade in style with 564 wickets and topped the list of most international wickets this decade which also includes some greats of the game such as James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Tim Southee, and Trent Boult.
Ashwin who has a knack of picking up wickets for India on a pitch which offers some assistance to the spinners made his debut in 2011 and became only 7th Indian to take a five-wicket haul on debut. Not only this, but the Chennai-lad was also the fastest bowler to reach the 300-wicket mark in the longest format of the game.
The 33-year-old who made a superb comeback to the Indian Test side after a year’s gap as he picked his 27th fifer in the first innings of the first Test match of South Africa series.
Sadly, the Ashwin has not been able to convert his success in red-ball cricket to the white-ball cricket as he played his last limited-overs game in 2017 as he was replaced with the new wrist-spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal who according to selectors and team management were the better options.
As far as the list of most international wickets is concerned, Ashwin is followed by an English pace duo of James Anderson (535) and Stuart Broad (525), whereas the kiwi pacers Tim Southee (472) and Trent Boult (458) took the 4th and 5th spot respectively.
