The Sydney Thunder pacer could have joined the likes of Steve Smith and Josh Hazlewood in being available for the latter stages of BBL 09, but he intends to take a break after Australia’s ODI tour of India in January.
Australia will play three ODIs in India. The series will start in Mumbai on January 14 followed by Rajkot (January 17) and Bengaluru (January 19). On the other hand, the BBL will go on till February 8.
"We're hoping he comes in and buys us pizza," Thunder coach Shane Bond was quoted as saying of Cummins by cricket.com.au. "I'll definitely be inviting him in (to the changerooms) for a few games – it's his shout.
"He's a great man, he is great around our team. He was great for us (in previous seasons) and we respected the fact that he needs a break.
"We just said if he wanted to come back he was always welcome here."
Pat Cummins is the numero uno bowler in ICC Test rankings while he has taken 92 wickets in 77 T20s at an economy rate of 7.72 so far.
Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore were engaged in an intense bidding war for Cummins before KKR joined the bid at INR 15 Crore and eventually overpowered the two franchises.
With the price he fetched in auction last week, Cummins also became the most expensive foreign buy in the history of IPL, surpassing Ben Stokes’ amount of INR 14.5 Crore.
