Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, on Friday, December 13, revealed that it was his partner who first noticed mental health issues while admitting that he was “cooked” after spending a lot of time away from home due to “four or five years being on the road.”

In October 2019, the 31-year-old announced a break from cricket due to mental health issues during Australia's T20I series against Sri Lanka at home.

However, the right-hander returned to club cricket last month, playing three Victorian Premier Cricket matches with club side Fitzroy Doncaster since his break and has also taken part in some aspects of Victoria's Shield program.

Maxwell revealed: “It was actually my partner who suggested I speak to someone, she was the first person who noticed it. Once I had that initial conversation it was a huge weight off my shoulders.”

He continued, “I’ve been getting back into the swing of things for a while. I think I was pretty cooked. I decided to take some time off and a big reason as to why I took that time away was because I was mentally and physically ruined from I think it was eight months on the road and living out of a suitcase. That had probably been going on for four or five years being on the road.”

The Aussie also thanked Cricket Australia and national team management and his domestic teams for their support to work on his mental health problems.

Maxwell signed off by saying, “It just all caught up with me at that time and I really want to thank Cricket Australia, Cricket Victoria and the (Melbourne) Stars for giving me that space and having that time away from the game.”

Noteworthy, the all-rounder will be next seen leading the Melbourne Stars in the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2019-20 later this month.
