Mumbai beat Baroda in the first round of the Ranji Trophy by a convincing margin. However, the talk of the final day’s play was Yusuf Pathan’s refusal to leave the crease after he was adjudged out wrongly.

The Mumbai team not only gained the first innings lead in the match but also went on to gain an outright win by a whopping margin of 309 runs. Prithi Shaw’s double hundred and Suryakumar Yadav’s quickfire hundred ensured Mumbai get to a total of 409 in just the 67th over.

While trying to save the game, veteran Baroda all-rounder Yusuf Pathan was involved in a controversial scene after being given out wrongly. In the 48th over of the innings, Shashank Attarde replaced the medium pacer Akash Parkar. He bowled a delivery to Pathan that hit his pads, went on to hit the side of his ribs and bounced up to Jay Bista stationed at forward short leg.

The ball was very close to the gloves and gave the impression of an inside edge to the Mumbai fielders and the umpire as well. The umpire ruled him out after a convincing appeal from the fielders. However, Pathan was distraught with the decision and did not move an inch. He kept looking at the fielders celebrating his wicket before being involved in a discussion with Ajinkya Rahane.

Watch the video here:

Wicket-keeper Aditya Tare pulled Rahane back and Pathan was left with no option but to go back to the pavilion. It was certainly not in the spirit of the game given that Pathan is a senior cricketer and must have seen a lot of poor umpiring decisions at the domestic level. He therefore must have known that refusing to move is certainly not a solution to it.
