South Africa could have Gary Kirsten mentoring Enoch Nkwe for England Tests

Cricket South Africa is pushing for a new structure in regime to resolve the recent issues.

Appointed interim team director ahead of South Africa's tour to India after just one season of coaching experience at the franchise level, Nkwe had earlier worked with South Africa A side and the Netherlands national side.

In India, where the Proteas suffered a 3-0 Test series whitewash, Nkwe had batting consultant Amol Muzumdar and bowling coach Vincent Barnes for support. But if he is permanently picked for the job, the 36-year-old will have the freedom to choose his own support staff.

However, that may not happen at least initially if Kirsten is indeed roped in for the mentoring part.

The CSA is pushing for restructuring in power following nine major recommendations made by former CSA president Norman Arendse, Dr Ali Bacher, former skipper Graeme Smith, Kirsten himself, and senior officials from the old South African Cricket Board of Control, which governed cricket played by non-white players during apartheid.

The work has already begun at two of those, with the appointment of Jacques Faul as acting CEO, replacing the currently suspended Thabang Moroe, and Smith likely to become the director of cricket.

"I have not been approached by CSA but have been asked, by others, if I would be interested," Kirsten told ESPNcricinfo. "I would always be willing to help where people think I can add value. It would, however, have be part of a bigger process to the commitment to rebuild a solid system."

Kirsten played 101 Tests and 185 ODIs for South Africa and was the country's head coach in a three-year period from 2011 until 2013, guiding it towards the No.1 status in the ICC Test rankings.
