“I don't place Virat Kohli in same class as Sachin Tendulkar,” says Abdul Razzaq

Razzaq feels the overall standard of cricket have declined with the rise of T20s.

Virat Kohli | GettyPakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq on Wednesday (December 4) said India skipper Virat Kohli is not in the same league as the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, citing that the quality of bowling currently is nowhere near the era of 1990s or 2000s.

Razzaq has played 46 Tests, 265 ODIs and 32 T20Is for Pakistan from 1996 to 2013 and has seen the very best of Tendulkar as an opponent.

"We are not seeing the same world-class players that we played against say between 1992 to 2007. T20 cricket has changed the game. There is no depth in bowling, batting or fielding. It is all basic now," Razzaq told Cricket Pakistan.

"Look at Virat Kohli. Yeah, he is a good player for them and is performing consistently, but I don't place him in the same class as Sachin Tendulkar, who was a different class altogether."

Razzaq also criticized the selection of young Pakistani bowlers for the recently held Test series in Australia.

"I know for a fact that the bowlers who went to Australia were picked because they caused problems to the senior batsmen in the nets. Is this any criteria for selection? Picking players on net performances is unacceptable. You never know how he will perform in a real-time match."

Pakistan’s young guns failed to live up to the expectations down under as they lost both the Tests by an innings.

Commenting on the outcome, Razzaq said it was not surprising given the wrong selection policies in recent times.

"Naseem Shah and Mohammad Hasnain are talented but I believe it is too early to put them in Test matches. They need to be taught and groomed more," he remarked.
