Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Monday, December 2, suspended fast bowler Mohammad Shahid for one year on account of provoking Shahadat Hossain that led to an assault on Arafat Sunny Jr. during the National Cricket League.

The apex body also handed one-year suspension to Sunny for provoking Sahadat, as he was constantly ignoring his request to shine the ball during the second day’s play between Dhaka Division and Khulna Division at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.

Shahadat, Bangladesh Test fast bowler, has been handed a five-year ban (with two years suspended) and fined Taka 3 lakh for assaulting Sunny Jr.

BCB tournament committee official confirmed to Cricbuzz, “Both of them committed level two offense and were handed one-year suspended suspension.”

He added, “Though they are not banned immediately, their on and off-field activities will be monitored and if they commit any more offense than the ban will be implemented right away.”

Meanwhile, the BCB official said on the matter: “Arafat did not act like a team man either. When Shahadat called him to shine the ball he was reluctant to do it and his behavior wasn't appropriate towards a senior member of the team.”

Noteworthy, the board had taken the decision after having a meeting on November 30 (Saturday) with the disciplinary committee alongside both the cricketers following a hearing.
